Research Award Policy
- This Policy shall be called “Research Award Policy” for granting of incentive(s)/cash award to the faculty members/research scholars/students/staff of the University for Research publication in peer reviewed Journals/Conferences, Patents, Authoring a book/book chapter, Participation in Conference/Workshop/Sympossium/Seminars, Extramural Grants and any other such research activities conducted during their employment /researching in the University;
- The Policy shall come into force from the financial year 2024–25;
- This Policy shall supersede Office Order SRHU/Reg/OO/2023-112 dated 29th June 2023 on “Policy for award of Incentives/Cash Award to the faculty members/research scholars/students/staff of the university for Extramural Projects. Research and Publication of Papers;
- Unless otherwise specifically provided in this Policy, whenever the context so requires, the masculine shall include the feminine and neuter, and the singular shall include the plural and conversely;
- The incentive(s)/cash award under this Policy shall be granted within each financial year, i.e., from 1st April to 31st March;
- The Policy introduces a point-based system for awarding credit for research publications in peer-reviewed Journals/Conferences, Patents, Authoring a book/book chapter and participation in conferences, workshops, symposiums, seminars, and other similar research activities. For extramural grants, the incentive shall be provided as a percentage of the funds received;
- The points earned shall be converted into cash award after valuation of each point, as determined by the Finance Committee;
- The incentive/cash award shall be reviewed and recommended by a “Research Award Committee” duly constituted by the Board of Management, and shall be subject to approval by the Competent Authority;
- Impact Factor, as claimed by many predatory journals, shall not be considered. Authors are advised to be cautious in this regard and should not publish their papers in such journals. In case of any doubt, the author may consult the Central Library;
- The author shall not be eligible for incentive/cash award for publication of Research papers in journals, not indexed in any of the mentioned indexing services;
- The research projects and papers published should be based on authentic data and original research work;
- The research projects and papers should mandatorily have the clearance of Ethics Committee and Research Committee of the University;
- ‘Policy for Prevention of Plagiarism’ of the University shall be applicable for granting of incentive/cash award for research publication. Such cases where plagiarism is detected or papers published on false data or any malpractice adopted for publication of research paper for the research conducted in the University, shall not be considered. In such cases, appropriate action shall be initiated as per provisions of ‘Policy for Prevention of Plagiarism’;
- The affiliation of the authors in their research publication(s) should mandatorily mention the following, without using any abbreviations:
- Full name of the author as per the records of the University;
- Full current designation;
- Ph.D. scholars, PG researchers and students must indicate their status as applicable. However, PG researchers and students must also specify the programme of their study;
- Full name of the Department (for example-Department of Community Medicine);
- Full name of the constituent college/school (for example-Himalayan College of Nursing);
- Full name of the University i.e., Swami Rama Himalayan University.
- The affiliation of the author(s) and other claims shall be verified by the Institutional Research Committee (IRC) of the respective academic unit, ensuring confidentiality for the concept. The author shall not be eligible for Cash Award in case affiliation is not in accordance with clause (14) mentioned herein above.
- The criteria for earning points for Research Awards shall be as defined hereunder: –
- SRHU Researchers who are ranked among the top 2% Scientist by the Stanford University and Elsevier USA

- Citations (1 point for 1 citation)
- Citations for papers with SRHU affiliation and cited in last two years will be considered.

- Self-citations will not be considered
- If one citation is received in one paper, then the points will be shared among all internal authors of the same paper, i.e., 1 Citation divided by number of internal authors.

- Research Incentive for Extramural ProjectsResearch Incentive to be paid to the faculty member for bringing any extramural funded Research Project is as under:

Research incentive for Extramural Project shall be distributed amongst all Investigators. However, out of the total amount available as research incentive, the Principal Investigator (PI) shall be entitled for a special incentive of 100 points additionally. The balance amount of the research incentive, after reducing the amount of special incentive, shall then be equally distributed amongst all Investigators, including the PI.
- Other Extraordinary/Distinctive achievements are not covered under this Policy
- Any grant/incentive/award cannot be claimed as a right and acceptance or rejection of any such request shall be solely on the discretion of the University
- All the achievements claimed for award/bonus points/ Conference grant, or any other benefits mentioned in this Policy should have affiliation of “Swami Rama Himalayan University” and its constituent academic units.
- Author is eligible to apply for reward only after indexing of the article (Web of Science/PubMed/Scopus etc.), published with volume/issue/page numbers. If the paper is accepted and published online but not yet assigned with volume/issue/page numbers, it would not be considered.
- Revenue generation can be done through consultancy, external funded project from govt. or non govt. sources, training and certification, IPR commercialization.
- For extramural project funding cash award, if the project is sanctioned and funds are received in multiple years, decision will be taken by the Finance Committee for one-time/multiple times disbursement of the cash incentive;
- Faculty members who qualify for any of the category but do not come under defined number of awards will be considered for consolation award of Rs. 10000 for maximum 30 top entries.
- Process:
- Faculty members shall submit their achievements annually for the period 1st April to 31st March of previous financial year by 31st May to the Institutional Research Committee (IRC) of their respective academic unit who would verify the achievements and forward these to the Research & Development Cell (RDC);
- RDC would compile the list and forward it to the HR for remarks, if any, with regards to disciplinary case/s;
- After feedback from the HR, RDC would place the list before the “Research Award Committee” of the University who would review and recommend the awards under various categories;
- The list recommended by the Research Award Committee shall be placed before the Board of Management for approval;
- The total incentive shall be calculated based on the incentive value of each point as determined by the Finance Committee of the University for that particular F.Y;
- The list of awardees would then be declared by RDC along with total incentive with the copy to HR, Finance Department and other related committees;
- The amount so earned shall be transferred to the account of the awardee by the Finance Department;
- The top three scorers from each academic unit shall be publicly honoured;
- The highest scorer shall be honoured as the best researcher of the University for the year;
- The University reserves the right to interpret, alter, modify, amend, cancel or withdraw any or all provisions mentioned here in above in this policy, as and when required.
- In case of any dispute, decision of the President of the University shall be final and binding.
